I believe that a rod should, whenever possible, be made from split cane bamboo, have cork handles, metal ferrules, silk whippings, and silver or bronze-coloured rings. Bamboo rods like this look right in a natural setting, they feel right when playing a fish and when casting, and have the reassurance of being lovingly made by a skilled craftsman.
